Minke Whale Stranded Amazon Tapajos River Brazil
Frantic villagers close to the Tapajos River in the Amazon, went to help a stranded Minke Whale. They continually douched the whale with water to ensure that they kept it alive and to prevent its skin from drying out with the hot sun.
The whale had somehow swam inland, over 1000 miles from the ocean. The 18 ft, approximately 12 ton minke whale apparently, got stranded on a sand bank in the Tapajos River in the Amazon. "it appears that it got seperated from its group (pod) and swam up stream," said a Brazilian biologist, "It's very unusual".
The whole back of the minke whale was exposed to the sun and volunteers did their very best to protect the whales skin and keep it cool.
Volunteers and scientists worked hard to dislodge the minke whale and as the water rose they returned the whale back into the river, in the direction of the ocean.

Speaking on the Jeremy Vine radio show today, Dr David Taylor vet and specialist in whales said, "It's so disgusting killing our mammal whale friends, we should all boycott Japanese products", he also said, "whale meat is not a food by product, it's the main reason why the Japanese go out to slaughter whales". Dr David Taylor also went on to say "it's scandalous, what scientific research? where ae the results? where is the scientific benefits? there are certainly no results in the scientific journals or anything like it!
In the Second World War, the Japanese were so cruel to our soldiers, that the torture of some of our men almost amounted to slaughter! International Whaling Commission at this years meeting at Anchorage and also at the Cities meeting in Holland this year, said, "No more commercial whaling", the votes for anti-whaling out numbered the votes for whaling, which was headed by the Japanese. So the Japs now deceitfully say, "we want to kill for scientific research". Why do the Japanese need almost 1100 whales for research? Ok catch one whale, put a transmitter on it and track the whale for six months, then make sure the transmitter falls off, completely leaving the whales body free of the transmitter. You don't need to kill almost 1100 whales who are just going about their daily life often as a family. Whales are very sensitive and live in close-knit pods, so even one death can be extremely damaging and upsetting to them.
You will find commercially sold whale meat in schools, hospitals, restuarants and sushi bars all over Japan. The Japanese don't want whales for scientific research, that's a complete myth. The Japs only want to slaughter these poor human loving whales to slice them up and eat them.
If the Japanese are selling the whale meat commercially when it's not allowed, surely that's illegal! Isn't it!
Japanese Whaling Ships Headed By The Nisshin Maru Left Shimonoseki Japan For The Antarctic
The Japanese whaling fleet including the Nisshin Maru with a crew of 239 and four other whaling ships, left the southern port of Shimonoseki Japan. They left for the Antarctic Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary with only one thing in mind, to slaughter 935 Minke whales, 50 endangered Fin whales and 50 endangered Humpback whales, many will be seriously injured and die a lingering death. The Japs will hang up and chop up and furnace these people loving whales, a very sad thought. These whales have been given sanctuary status in the Southern Antarctic Ocean. Sanctuary status means protection for whales and does not mean that a new name can be drummed up called Scientific Research which allows the Japanese to slaughter whales in the Antarctic Southern Ocean Whale Sanctuary. Sanctuary means Sanctuary and for whatever reason it means no slaughtering of whales.
Although the International Whaling Commission and Cities are against whaling commercially and ordered no more commercial whaling, it appears that they do not have the capacity to enforce it (no patrol ships). A radio 2 listener on the Jeremy Vine show 19th November 2007 clearly said, "send warships out, to protect the whales against the Japanese, with orders to open fire".
Let's hope that Greenpeace with their type of action and Sea Shepherd with their style of action, between them can do something about it. Baby Seal Disaster Northern Hares Near The Farne Isles Northumberland
It has been a sad day because of the storms, 70 baby seals were torn away from their lactating mothers and swept out to sea, only one survived returning to its mother. Close by, ten baby seals were found and taken to a seal sanctuary, it is not known whether these ten baby seals were ten of the 70 baby seals that were swept out to sea.
We really hope that these ten seals were the survives of the 70 baby seals that were swept out to sea.
Orkney Isle Hooded Seals Swims To Spain
A hooded seal that was returned to the sea in the Orkney Isles by the National Seal Rescue Centre Cornwall, on 9th October 2007 has swam all the way to San Sebastian Spain. A journey of over 1000 miles. Apparently the male hooded seal, followed the shelf and that's how he ended up in a harbour in San Sebastian. The hooded seal completed the journey in just over one month.
How the sanctuary knew in which direction the hooded seal went, they tagged the hooded seal and then they were able to track it, via the satellite. They successfully followed its journey and the speed it was travelling. Apparently the National Seal Rescue Centre said it was unbelievable!
What amazing creatures these seals are and these are the creatures that mankind kill.
UK Baby Seals Swept Out To Sea
Because of violent storms around the Farne Islands off the coast of Northumberland, baby seals some only a few days old, are being torn away from their lactating mothers and swept out to sea. The mothers and their babe's cling onto the rocky shore lines, with very little protection. The large waves crash onto the shore and then suck back the baby seals into the sea. The mother seal then tries desperately hard to push her beautiful white fury baby seal back to the rocky shore line, but often in vain. The baby seal is then swept out to sea, defenceless and unable to swim back to the shore, because of the powerful seas. The baby seal when swept out to sea is unable to feed itself.
Over 1000 baby seals are born every year in this area, this year the sea may claim over half of the baby seals because of the storms.
Loosing all these baby seals is harrowing.
